About APTS

The APTS Membership Advantage
Since its creation in 1979, the members of the Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) have been the nation’s public television stations. APTS was founded by the stations in order for them to have a representative voice in Washington DC–an organization that would work to ensure that the stations’ interests were served in advocating to Congress, before the FCC and to other federal agencies.

APTS member stations pay annual service fees to support the work of the association. The organization’s annual goal is to include all CPB-qualified licensees as members.

APTS Members play a leading role in developing our legislative agenda and regulatory policies. APTS seeks member input to set our platform on topics such as spectrum repacking, wireless devices, CPB reauthorization, and the digital carriage provisions in the Satellite Home Viewer Improvement Act (SHVIA).

APTS continues its commitment to keeping stations and their boards involved in every level of advocacy, including funding opportunities and coalition initiatives. Through this web site, APTS hopes to greatly increase the frequency and quality of our consultations and communications with our member stations. Use this web site as a resource for information on:

  • Enhanced services, like coalitions and the Grants Center.
  • Station consultations.
  • Enhanced resources.
  • Online briefings.
  • Calls-to-action.
  • Educational outreach to Members of Congress.

Organizations other than public television stations who are interested in supporting APTS' mission may join the Associate Membership Program.
