APTS Board Member Haarsager Elected to Chair National Public Radio Board
Dennis Haarsager, Washington State University’s associate vice president and general manager, Educational Telecommunications and Technology, has been elected to a one-year term as chair of the National Public Radio (NPR) Board. He has been on the NPR board since 2005.
Haarsager who is a member of APTS board, has worked in public broadcasting since 1969, with stints at South Dakota Public Broadcasting, most recently as Director of Administration, and as State Coordinator for Idaho Public Broadcasting.
In 1978, he moved to WSU as general manager for KWSU-AM/TV. Since then, WSU has added a dozen new radio stations, a second Public Television station, the country’s busiest real-time video learning network, and on-campus instructional support services.
KWSU has been a member of APTS since it was founded and two WSU presidents have served on its board. In addition, Haarsager served two terms on the PBS board from 1997-2003 where he chaired technology and interconnection committees.
He previously chaired the Public Television Small Station Association, public radio’s Station Resource Group, West Coast Public Radio, and the Washington Public Broadcasting Association.
