The 2013 Public Media Summit Information
The Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) invites you to join us for The 2013 Public Media Summit (The Summit) on February 24-26, 2013, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City at Reagan National Airport, 2799 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, Virginia 22202.
Our second Summit will feature presentations and discussions on the most important issues facing public service media today and tomorrow, including prospects for federal funding in the aftermath of the 2012 elections, challenges and opportunities in the FCC spectrum auction proceeding, new strategies for growth in our industry, best practices in station management, business development and technological progress, and the new world of constant advocacy.
The 2013 Summit will also feature some very special guest speakers, a Public Service Media Expo on Capitol Hill, and a celebration of the best in public television at a festive Red Carpet awards reception (coinciding with Oscar night).
We’ll also focus, as always, on the federal budget and appropriations process so important to public media, deploying our troops across Capitol Hill on the final day of the Summit to help secure stable federal funding and a growing bipartisan consensus for our cause. We know that this crucial support rests on the contributions of your stations to your local communities, and this is the compelling message we must carry to all of our Senators and Representatives – but particularly to those new to Washington.
We’ll make a special effort at this year’s Summit to engage the energy, enthusiasm, influence and vision of our industry’s lay leaders as never before. We need to strengthen our “grass roots” and “grass-tops” strategies, and we encourage your station’s lay leaders to join us at The Summit.
We need every station to work with us to convince the new Washington that we richly deserve continued federal support, and we need your good counsel as we plan our industry’s future together. We hope we can count on you, your senior station colleagues and your lay representatives to join us for The Public Media Summit next February.
