Description: The Foundation provides grants in the areas of:
- Arts and Culture
- Civic and Community
- Education
- Health and Health Initiatives
- Human Services
- United Way
- Youth and Youth-at-Risk
Grants are primarily made to organizations based in Birmingham, Alabama.
Sample grants:
- $20,000 to Alabama Public Television for Discovering Alabama programming and other station needs (2007);
- $4,420 to WBHM in underwriting support (2008); same amount in 2006 and 2007.
Fit for public broadcasting: The Foundation supports public media organizations in Alabama (primarily in Birmingham).
Eligibility: Applicants must have 501(c)(3) status and must be located within the Foundation's targeted area (mainly Birmingham). Requests can only be submitted once in a 12-month period, even if declined. Once a multi-year gift is completed, the grantee may not submit another proposal for consideration for at least two years. Applicants must have strong leadership with a committed, active board of directors and/or advisory board.
The Foundation generally does not fund:
- K-12 schools.
- Churches, public facilities or state organizations.
- Start-up funding, new staff positions, feasibility studies, consultants.
Deadlines: February 19, May 21, August 20 and November 19
