Description: The program's goal is to encourage and support artistic creativity, preserve diverse cultural heritage and make the arts more widely available in communities throughout the country. The NEA awards grants under the following disciplines: artist communities, dance, design, folk and traditional arts, literature, local arts agencies, media arts, museums, music, musical theater, opera, presenting, theater, and visual arts.

Fit for public broadcasting: Public broadcasters should consider applying under the Media Arts discipline. Under this category, the NEA is particularly interested in funding projects that demonstrate innovation by generating new forms of art making, new directions in the field, and/or new uses of creative resources. Funded activities include:

Exhibition of film/video art including the production of program notes and commentary by visiting artists and critics.

National or regional distribution of film/video/audio art.

Preservation of film/video/audio artworks, and services that support preservation efforts.

Facilities access that makes production and post-production equipment available to media artists.

Documentary, experimental, animated, and narrative work.
Eligibility: Nonprofits, state governements, local governments, local arts agencies, and local education agencies are eligible to apply.
Anticipated funding: An organization may request a grant amount from $5,000 to $150,000. Announcements for grant awards will begin in April 2011.
