Description: The program's goal is to help children and youth acquire knowledge and understanding of skills in the arts by providing participatory learning opportunities and engaging students with skilled artists, teachers, and excellent art. Funded activities include:
- Engaging children and youth over an extended period to increase their proficiency in and understanding of an arts discipline.
- Exploring new ways to integrate arts learning with learning in other subjects.
- Professional development programs that increase the knowledge and skills of teachers, artists, youth program providers, and others who work in arts learning with children and youth.
Fit for public broadcasting: This is an opportunity for public broadcasters to create media content that helps teachers, artists, and other educators gain the skills necessary to engage children and youth in arts learning, consistent with national or state arts education standards.
Eligibility: Nonprofit organizations, state and local governments, and local education agencies are eligible to apply.
Anticipated funding: Awards range from $5,000 to $150,000 each.
Anticipated award date: Announcements of grant awards will begin in November 2010.
