SMALL GRANTS TO LIBRARIES AND NONPROFITS

Small Grants to Libraries and Nonprofits

Grant: Small Grants to Libraries and other Nonprofit Institutions: America’s Music: A Film History of our Popular Music from Blues to Bluegrass to Broadway
Agency: National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)
Division: Public Programs
Deadline: The deadline was March 14, 2012

Description:
The Small Grants to Library: America’s Music: A Film History of our Popular Music from Blues to Bluegrass to Broadway project will fund 50 organizations (libraries and other eligible nonprofits) to host a six-week public program incorporating documentary film screenings and scholar-led discussions of 20th century American popular music. To be offered between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013, the six sessions will focus on these uniquely American musical genres: blues and gospel, broadway, jazz, bluegrass and country, rock ‘n’ roll, and mambo and hip hop.

The project will provide DVDs of compelling documentary films, discussion guidelines, original essays by eminent scholars, extensive resource guides and web support. Additionally the project will offer participating organizations training in how to organize, promote and run the series successfully.

The America’s Music series is not meant to offer an all-inclusive treatment of 20th century American popular music. Rather, each screening and discussion session will examine key social and historical documents, with events in American music history acting as a catalyst for that examination.

Further details of the six units to be included in the program are provided in the program notice.

Fit for Public Broadcasting: Public television and radio stations are encouraged to partner with their local libraries in this America’s Music grant. Stations have a history of partnering with their local libraries in community outreach and other programming activities. They can provide the additional reach to the community through their ability to impact and reach a wider audience.

Eligibility: Nonprofit organizations as well as libraries and venues related to music or American history are encouraged to apply. However, nonprofit organizations other than libraries must apply in partnership with a library, as grant guidelines require that the documentary DVD packages become part of a library’s circulating collection after the series ends.

Anticipated Funding: NEH expects to grant 50 awards of up to $2,500, made for a period of six to 24 months.

How to Apply: Applications for this program must be submitted via Grants.gov. Before registering with Grants.gov for the first time, each organization must register with the Central Contractor Registration (CCR). NEH strongly recommends that you complete or verify your registration at least two weeks before the application deadline, as it takes time for your registration to be processed.
