Description: Wyncote Foundation was founded in December 2009 with funds from the Otto and Phoebe Haas Charitable Trusts, at the direction of John C. Haas. The foundation is so new that it appears to be developing its program interests. Its first year of grantmaking focused heavily on public media. In 2011, it has begun to expand into additional areas.

  • $2,500,000 to Rosenbach Museum & Library to endow its Executive Director position (2011).
  • $750,000 to Independent Television Service (ITVS) in support of the Global Perspectives project.
  • $705,000 to American University – Current Newspaper in support of Current's transfer from WNET to American University, for strategic planning and organizational development.
  • $500,000 to Public Radio Capital for a new platform for younger and more diverse audiences.
  • $300,000 to Northern California Public Broadcasting in support of QUEST, KQED’s educational science series.
  • $150,000 to Temple University Media Education Lab for Powerful Voices for Kids.
  • $121,700 to WHYY for the Fresh Air Archive Project.

Fit for Public Media: The foundation has a strong interest in public media. Unusually, the foundation makes grants for a wide variety of public media initiatives ranging from programming to industry infrastructure to capacity-building.
