Description: The Foundation was established in 1987 by donors and trustees Henry H. Zarrow and Jack C. Zarrow. The Foundation gives primarily to Jewish causes and charities' fundraising events. There are two related foundations in Tulsa: The Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation with assets of $84,839,966 and total annual giving of $10,476,876, and the Maxine and Jack Zarrow Family Foundation with assets of $37,959,176 and total annual giving of $2,850,945. The Zarrow Families Foundation's fields of interest are:

  • Arts.
  • Elementary/secondary education.
  • Federated giving programs.
  • Health.
  • Human services.
  • Mental health/crisis services.
  • Youth.

Sample grants: 

  • $7,000 to Tulsa Ballet Theater for performance of Bella Cucina (2008).
  • $6,000 to Oklahoma Educational Television Authority Foundation for general/operating support (2008).
  • $3,500 to University of Tulsa for KWGS (2008).

Fit for public broadcasting: The Foundation appears to be strongly focused on Jewish causes and charities, though it has made gifts for public media. The two other Zarrow family foundations have also made gifts for media and the arts, but not in significantly higher amounts or numbers than the Zarrow Families Foundation.

Eligibility: Giving primarily in the Tulsa, OK, area. No grants to individuals. 

Deadline: The board meets in May and Nov. Information on upcoming deadlines is available online.

How to apply: The Foundation appears not to accept unsolicited applications, so interested applicants would need an introduction. However, the other Zarrow Foundations do accept applications. All three foundations associated with the Zarrow family share the same website, and their online application page can be found here. Grant guidelines can be found online.

Giving range: The Foundation's average gift size for the media or arts is approximately $5,500. The Foundation has made gifts as high as $100,000.
