Support for Participation in TV Multi-Station Master Controls Grant
Grant: Support for Participation in TV Multi-Station Master Controls Grant
Agency: Corporation for Public Broadcasting
Deadline: June 30, 2013
Description: Through this program, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) will assist public television stations with grants to pay for equipment or fees that are required to participate in existing multi-station master control projects. Priority will be given to stations that are likely to encounter difficultly in securing capital equipment funding especially among rural stations. A full listing of qualified expenses is found in the program notice, they include:
- Last-mile fiber or other connectivity.
- Special automation, storage, remote control or other equipment needed at either the station or central cast facility.
- One-time entry or operational fees for joining the multi-station master control.
Participating in a multi-station master control project can help stations to improve operational efficiency and long-term sustainability. CPB encourages stations to allocate fewer resources toward duplicative infrastructure and more toward locally-relevant content and services. These master control hubs are designed to replace and manage stations’ technical on-air operations. Each station retains control of their brand, program schedule and local programming.
Fit for Public Broadcasting: This program is designed specifically for public television stations looking to participate in a multi-station master control project.
Eligibility: Any CPB qualified public television station is eligible to apply.
Anticipated Funding: CPB will provide grants of up to 50 percent of total project costs up to $50,000. A total of $1 million will be granted among qualified stations through this program. Applications will be accepted until June 30, 2013; however, once all grants are made the program will be closed.
How to Apply: Applications must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word and Excel to Dianne Yoo, Project Manager of Digital Technology Projects at CPB. Additionally, any questions about program guidelines and grant requirements should also be submitted by email. They will be answered by CPB staff members and shared on CPB’s Frequently Asked Questions page for this program.
