Description: Publix Super Markets was founded in 1930 in Winter Haven, FL. It is now the largest and fastest-growing employee-owned supermarket chain in the United States. It is one of the 10 largest-volume supermarket chains in the U.S., with 2009 retail sales of $24.3 billion. Publix Super Markets employs more than 141,000 people. Stores are located in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
Publix Super Markets Charities supports thousands of local organizations, including some public media. In addition, Publix supports a limited number of organizations through company-wide campaigns. In 2008, Publix Super Markets Charities gave $15.6 million to match $20.8 million raised from employees for United Way. Other organizations that receive support from company-wide campaigns include Special Olympics, March of Dimes, Children's Miracle Network (hospitals) and Food for All.

Fit for public broadcasting: Publix Super Markets Charities is a source of funding for public media serving Florida and the Southeast. Grants are not large.

How to apply: Applicants should submit a proposal that includes information about the organization; information about the project (if applicable) and its total cost; a brief budget; the total amount of money pledged toward the project to date; the amount requested; a list of funds secured from other organizations to date; a copy of the 501(c)(3) letter issued by the IRS; and a list of the organization's Board of Directors. The applicant should state if there are deadlines associated with the project.
Giving range: As high as $500,000. Most grants are small (under $10,000).
