Telehealth Network Grant Program
Grant: Telehealth Network Grant Program
Agency: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
Department: Health Resources and Services Administration
Deadline: This competition is closed. The deadline was February 13, 2013.
Description: The primary objective of the Telehealth Network Grant Program (TNGP) is to demonstrate how telehealth programs and networks can improve access to quality health care services in underserved rural and urban communities. TNGP grants demonstrate how telehealth networks improve healthcare services to: (a) expand access to, coordinate, and improve the quality of health care services; (b) improve and expand the training of health care providers; and/or (c) expand and improve the quality of health information available to health care providers, patients and their families.
In accordance with the President's Improving Rural Health Care Initiative included in the Administration's 2013 budget request, grantees are encouraged to use an evidence-based approach to its funded activities and cite how their proposed approach to using the grant funds are based on established practices.
All applicants should have a successful track record in implementing telehealth technology and have a network of partners in place and committed to the project as of the date of application. TNGP funds are intended to fund network expansion and/or to increase the breadth of services of successful telehealth networks.
Fit for public broadcasting: Stations active in telehealth or using datacasting technologies to provide health services to rural communities may find a partnership opportunity here. Lead applicants will be healthcare providers and hospitals.
Eligibility: Eligible applicants include rural or urban nonprofit entities that will provide services through a telehealth network, which is described in more detail in the program notice. Each entity participating in the networks may be a nonprofit or for-profit entity.
Anticipated funding: Approximately $2.25 million is expected to be available annually to fund approximately 9 grantees. Applicants may apply for an amount of up to $250,000 per year, with a project period of three years.
How to apply: All applications must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov. Online submission requires registration, a process that usually takes three to five business days but can take as long as four weeks. Be sure to visit Grants.gov and begin registering well in advance of the grant deadline.
