Description: Established in 1958, the Foundation provides philanthropic support to address specific needs vital to the health of its communities through a focus on preserving neighborhoods, preparing future homeowners, educating the workforce for 21st century jobs and addressing critical needs, such as hunger. The Foundation also supports large infrastructure nonprofits and cultural organizations that provide economic opportunity and contribute to the vitality and livability of communities. Special emphasis is directed toward programs supporting low and moderate income communities. Support is given primarily in areas of company operations.

The Foundation operates several giving programs, including:

  • The Foundation makes grants to organizations working in the areas of community development, education and workforce, and critical needs. The Foundation issues Requests for Proposals for each of these areas.
  • Sponsorships: The Foundation provides sponsorships of art exhibitions, events and performances as a way of supporting the economic, social and cultural life of its operating communities.
  • Matching Gifts: The Foundation matches contributions made by associates and directors of Bank of America to nonprofit organizations on a one-for-one basis from $25 to $5,000 per contributor, per year.

Fit for public broadcasting: The Foundation recognizes the importance of public media by supporting local broadcast media in their communities. The best fits for public media are likely: seeking support as an important community institution that contributes to economic development and community vitality; seeking support to educate future homeowners; seeking support for education and workforce development. American Graduate activities may converge with the Foundation’s interests in education.

Eligibility: Giving on a national basis in areas of company operations. No support for discriminatory organizations, political, labor or fraternal organizations, civic clubs, religious organizations not of direct benefit to the entire community, or public or private pre-K-12 schools. No grants to individuals or for fellowships, sports, athletic events or programs, travel-related events, student trips or tours, development or production of books, films, videos, or television programs, or memorial campaigns. Support is limited to one contribution per organization during any given year.

Giving range: The average gift for radio projects is approximately $21,784. The Foundation has made gifts as high as $7.5 million.
