OPEN JOURNALISM FELLOWSHIPS IN DIGITAL MEDIA, RELIGION

Open Journalism Fellowships in Digital Media, Religion

The following programs are currently accepting applications from staff and freelance journalists:

  • Women Entrepreneurs in the Global Media Frontier: The International Women’s Media Foundation will award three grants of $20,000 each to women journalists who aspire to be new media entrepreneurs. (The grant funds come from the Ford Foundation.) Applicants must propose a project that has not yet launched and that will use digital media to deliver the news in innovative ways. Winners will be announced in February 2011. Application deadline is November 30, 2010.
  • The Knight Luce Fellowship for Reporting on Global Religion: This fellowship will provide stipends ranging from $5,000 - $25,000 to working journalists for coverage of religion. Awardees will report at least three stories for multiple platforms on religion and its influence on “personal identity, political power, the search for meaning, the nature of conflict and the construction of community.” Specialized training in religion is not required. Stories must be reported outside of the United States. Stipends cover travel, living and expenses. Grantees will spend three days in residence at the University of Southern California. The application deadline is December 17, 2010.
