PUBLIC AWARENESS AND OUTREACH FOR VICTIMS IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES

Public Awareness and Outreach for Victims in Underserved Communities

Grant: Public Awareness and Outreach for Victims in Underserved Communities
Agency: Department of Justice
Division: Office for Victims of Crime (OVC)
Deadline: Applications were due May 18, 2010

Description: The goal of this program is to raise the awareness within traditionally underserved populations about the needs of children exposed to violence, as well as to improve their knowledge about accessing services available to child victims.

Awareness campaigns should be targeted towards socially isolated populations including, but not limited to, those historically underserved due to race, socio-economic status, disability, or sexual orientation.

Fit for public broadcasting: Public awareness campaigns can take the form of radio or television public service announcements, interviews, newspaper articles or other innovative strategies. Public broadcasters should consider partnering with organizations that have expertise in crime victimization that focuses on children directly exposed to and affected by violence to determine the best media strategy for their campaign.

Eligibility: Nonprofits are eligible to apply.

Anticipated funding: Approximately $1,000,000 will be distributed across 10 awards of $100,000 each.

How to apply: Applications will be submitted through OJP's Grants Management System (GMS). For instructions on using the GMS system, review the 'How to Apply' section on page 7 of the program notice.
