Immigration Related Employment Discrimination Public Education Grants
Grant: Immigration Related Employment Discrimination Public Education Grants
Agency: U.S. Department of Justice
Division: Civil Rights Division, Office of Special Council for Immigration Related Unfair Employment Practices
Deadline: This competition is closed. The last round of awards was announced in September 2009. The description below is based on the last round of competition.
Description: Funds are available for grants to conduct public education programs about the rights afforded potential victims of employment discrimination and the responsibilities of employers under the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). The INA protects work-authorized individuals from employment discrimination based on their citizenship status and/or national origin.
This grant program seeks organizations, including nonprofit organizations providing information services (like PTV stations), to educate both workers and employers about their rights and responsibilities under the anti-discrimination provision of the INA. The OSC is interested in proposals that will use existing materials (brochures, posters, videos, etc.) effectively to educate large numbers of workers or employers about their respective rights and responsibilities. Proposals that articulate and substantiate other creative means of reaching these populations were also be considered.
Applicants proposing educational campaigns addressing potential victims of discrimination should keep in mind that some of the traditional methods of public communication may be less than optimal for educating members of national origin or linguistic groups that have limited community-based support and communication networks. Some grantees who are conducting citizenship campaigns have, in the past, combined these efforts and resources with the INA antidiscrimination education campaigns in order to maximize the scope and breadth of the project and to reach a larger number of individuals.
