APPLICATION FOR DESIGNATION OF ELIGIBILITY

Application for Designation of Eligibility

The U.S. Department of Education has announced the reopening of the period for submitting an application for a designation of eligibility for the programs authorized under Title III and Title V of the Higher Education Act of 1965. To be eligible to apply for some programs from the Office of Postsecondary Education, institutions and organizations must have received this designation of eligibility.

This reopening of the application period applies only to those institutions that intend to apply for new awards in competitions to be announced this fall under the Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISI), Native American-Serving Nontribal Institutions (NASNTI), Hispanic Serving Institutions-STEM and Articulation (HSI-STEM) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBI) programs. This limited reopening is intended to ensure that all potential applicants to the AANAPISI, NASNTI, HSI-STEM and PBI programs have the opportunity to submit applications for eligibility prior to the announcement of these competitions.

The deadline for eligibility designation applications is September 13, 2010. Applications for designation of eligibility must be submitted electronically. An institution's Office of Postsecondary Education Identification Number (OPE ID Number) must be used to enter the website and apply. If the OPE ID Number is unknown, contact the Institutional Development and Undergraduate Education Service. Detailed instructions for completing the application form are online.
