Grant Center Provides Resources to Extend CPB Initiatives
December 5, 2011
Is your station involved in either CPB's American Graduate or the Women and Girls Lead initiative? The Grant Center is here to help you formulate a sustainability plan or seek funding to extend the reach of your project.
American Graduate addresses the dropout crisis of the United States by raising awareness and working directly with students, parents, teachers, mentors, volunteers and leaders to lower the dropout rate in their communities. In May 2011, The Grant Center provided an extensive list of foundations with a history of support for dropout prevention activities. Below are a few more that have recently come to our attention. Be sure to check out the profiles to see past awards:
- Rhode Island Foundation.
- Baltimore Community Foundation.
- Lincoln Financial Foundation.
- William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
Women and Girls Lead educates and connects women, girls and their allies across the globe to address the challenges of the 21st century. The following foundations may prove helpful, given their interest in funding projects on issues surrounding women and girls.
Working on this initiative can open the door to other funding opportunities. The National Science Foundation (NSF), in particular, seeks to fund the education of women and girls in STEM education through an agency-wide directive to increase their representation in the sciences. The Grant Center's recent webinar on NSF funding highlighted this convergence and provided information on ways to find a Principal Investigator (PI) with whom to partner on a grant from NSF. Grants of up to $150,000 are available through the Connecting Researchers and Public Audiences (CRPA) program to document NSF research for a public audience. Why not use this opportunity to approach one of the researchers already funded to study women in science? NSF grantees are also required to find a way to communicate their research to the public; they may welcome a media partner.
Remember that The Grant Center can advise you about these projects and resources, so please contact us if you have questions.
