U.S. Department of Agriculture announces recipients of Public Television Digital Transition Grant Program

Earlier this week, Agriculture Under Secretary for Rural Development announced the selection of public television licensees in 13 states to receive funding to complete digital TV conversion projects. This funding is provided through the Public Television Digital Transition Grant Program, administered by the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) with the intent to provide equipment funding to public stations that serve substantial rural populations.

The 14 stations that receive awards will use the funding for digital transition efforts, which include replacing outdated transmission equipment and installing a digital translator that will provide coverage to areas that had previously received analog service.

The grant funding totals $6.2 million, and the following stations have been selected to receive awards:

• Redwood Empire Public Television, Inc.
• Idaho Public Television
• Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois University
• Kentucky Authority for Educational Television
• Maine Public Broadcasting
• University of Central Missouri
• Prairie Public Broadcasting, Inc.
• Regents of the University of New Mexico
• St. Lawrence Valley Educational Television Council, Inc.
• Southern Oregon Public Television
• Upper Cumberland Broadcast Council, WCTE TV
• West Tennessee Public Television Council, Inc.
• West Virginia Education Broadcasting Authority
