
KLCS Remains A Community Asset With Its Educational Television
KLCS, based in Los Angeles, California, produces Instructional Television (ITV) programming, which strives to be a comprehensive resource for both students and teachers, but also appeal to the broad community at large. Their main mission is to provide the educational needs of their students. KLCS’s website also provides educational tools and resources to prepare for college or get ready for a career.
ITV hosts shows like Math Park, which is aimed at children in grades 2-4 to get excited about math! Homework Hotline is another series that presents certified teachers giving lessons in math, science or English for middle school-aged children. Cracking the Code helps kids to grasp the complex history and science of genetics in an understanding and comprehendible way. This well balanced mix of shows provides the community with a variation of educational programming.
In June 2012, KLCS hosted their 25th annual Video in the Classroom (VIC) Awards Program. Since 1988, KLCS hosts this program to honor and stimulate recognition of using video productions as a teaching tool. They encourage educational growth through video production technology with the goal of addressing the California State Content Standards. You can now watch the full awards program online!
On a different note, recently KLCS also had the privilege of premiering the esteemed film Hollywood to Dollywood on June 12th. After touring from festival to festival, Hollywood to Dollywood has won 24 awards from around the globe. KLCS will continue to run this documentary of an encouraging, civil rights journey in their programming.
KLCS provides communication through programming and service to Los Angeles Unified School District’s one million students, 80,000 employees and more than 500,000 District households throughout Los Angeles County. In addition, KLCS provides over 8,000 hours of instructional, educational and informational content annually, with over 700 hours of original content.
