
ValleyPBS Highlights Local Issues for California's Central Valley's Children
Do you consider how kids count? If you are not a parent, you might not have. Yet, a new program, Kids Count, produced by ValleyPBS, serving California's Central Valley’s diverse community, is pointing out the issues impacting children and the community as a whole.
Kids Count is a monthly program highlighting local issues affecting the health, well-being and quality of life of Valley’s children. Each hour-long episode profiles real Valley families and talks with local experts in the featured field.
Topics to be addressed in the series include:
- The Children’s movement, Preschool, Breastfeeding, Teen pregnancy.
- Health issues.
- Environmental concerns.
The goal of the program is to provide reliable, balanced information that encourages viewers to think, feel and make informed decisions on behalf of their children and the children of the future.
Recent episodes look at the impact of early childhood education on children and the community as a whole. The show discusses access, affordability and quality of early education with Valley child care facilities, schools and experts.
Kids Count is hosted by Yahaira Garcia-Perea. She is a new mom and the Media/Public Relations Specialist for the Fresno County Economic Opportunities Commission, a private, nonprofit organization helping low-income individuals and families become self-sufficient.
