Ready to Work The goal of the WSAL coalition is to secure an authorization and annual federal appropriations to produce new adult literacy/workforce training products and to support local station partnerships that reach out to large numbers of undereducated adults. This proposed program will parallel the success of the Ready to Learn program- with part of the funding going for the production of high quality digital content and research and part of it going to support station outreach/community partnerships. This coalition was organized through APTS by KET's Ginni Fox and Sandy Welch in 2002.
Legislative targets include the reauthorization of the key programs that support adult education, including the Workforce Investment Act and the Perkins Vocational Education Act. The former bill has passed the House Education and Workforce Committee with favorable language for our initiative. The bill is now under consideration by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) committee. Early reactions to our proposals are positive.
