tpanczyk@apts.org APTS Applauds President Obama’s Choice of Genachowski as New FCC Chairman WASHINGTON—March 4, 2009—The Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) applauded President Barack Obama’s nomination of Julius Genachowski as chairman of the FCC.
“We applaud President Obama’s pick of Julius Genachowski,” said APTS President & CEO Larry Sidman. “Having advocated before Julius when he served previously at the FCC, I found him to be incredibly smart and understanding of both business and communications issues. Even more importantly, he has a sound public policy compass and a vision of the benefits digital technology can bring to the American people. We look forward to working with the new chairman and other FCC commissioners in the months and years ahead.”
APTS was established to support the continued growth and development of a strong and financially sound noncommercial television service for the American public. As broadcasters make the transition to digital, APTS is working to ensure the federal government continues its commitment to universal public television services.
