The Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) congratulates Mignon Clyburn and Meredith Attwell Baker on their confirmations as FCC commissioners. The full Senate voted on Friday to approve the nominations and fill the remaining two spots on the five-member Commission.
The Senate approved the nominations in August to fill the remaining two spots on the five-member Commission. Clyburn, a Democrat, is a member of the South Carolina Public Service Commission and the daughter of House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.). Baker, a Republican, is the former acting head of the National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA), where she oversaw the DTV Converter Box Coupon Program.
“We are pleased to see Mignon Clyburn and Meredith Attwell Baker confirmed as FCC Commissioners,” said APTS President & CEO Larry Sidman. “They bring valuable experience in government and communications to the table, and share a deep commitment to ensuring that national policies balance the needs of consumers and industry.”
Sidman continued: “Through her long and distinguished tenure on the South Carolina Public Service Commission, Commissioner Clyburn developed a deep understanding of the telecommunications challenges average Americans face every day. Commissioner Baker led the NTIA through the challenging DTV conversion, providing critical leadership to protect millions of consumers who would be impacted by the transition to digital broadcasting.” Sidman concluded: “APTS looks forward to working with both new commissioners, as well as Chairman Genachowski and the other FCC commissioners.”
