APTS Welcomes Stacey Karp as Communications Director and Ellen Holloway as Grant Coordinator

WASHINGTON—September 24, 2009 – The Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) is pleased to welcome two new staff members to the organization. Stacey Karp has joined APTS as the Communications Director and Ellen Holloway as the Grant Coordinator.

“APTS is delighted to have Stacey Karp and Ellen Holloway join our team,” said APTS President and CEO Larry Sidman. “Both Stacey and Ellen bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in their respective fields.”

As the Communications Director, Stacey will provide a wide range of communications, public relations, online media and research functions to advance public television’s legislative and regulatory objectives. Ellen Holloway, in her role as the Grant Coordinator, will conduct research, writing and agency coordination associated with acquisition of federal and foundation grants for public television stations.

Stacey most recently served as the Director of External Affairs for Northern California Public Broadcasting, where she managed government relations and community affairs for KQED, KTEH and KQET. She ensured that these public television and radio stations maintained productive relationships with community partners, elected public officials, government agencies and other organizations throughout Northern California. She was also the lead liaison to special groups and partnerships in regards to promotion and community engagement activity. Stacey was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and a Certificate in Women’s Studies.

Sidman said: “Stacey’s experience working for one of the most-watched public television stations and the most listened to public radio station in the country will be a tremendous asset to APTS. Her knowledge of how federal funding affects local stations will be instrumental in communicating our message to the greater media.”

Prior to joining APTS, Ellen worked with the Christian Science Publishing Society as a project manager. Her projects included the re-organization of radio and television broadcasting programs, a website redesign, and the launch of an audio download store. Ellen also has experience in the grantmaking world. She worked with San Diego Grantmakers as their member services coordinator, the Tuttleman Family Foundation as their grant coordinator, and the Jewish Community Foundation as their youth philanthropy coordinator. Her combined experience in these roles included addressing membership needs, reviewing and evaluating grant proposals, and writing successful grant proposals. Ellen is a native of Davis, California and a member of the California Bar. She graduated from Boston College Law School in 2007 and the University of California, San Diego, cum laude, in 2003 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish.

Sidman said: “Ellen’s expertise in grant making and coordination will benefit the public broadcasting community immensely. She knows how funding decisions are made and will be an invaluable resource to public broadcasting stations.”

Ellen’s work with APTS is made possible by an 18-month grant APTS received from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to create a Federal Grants Coordination Center. Through this Center, Ellen will assist public broadcasting stations in researching and identifying federal grant and foundation funding opportunities, coordinating efforts of stations to seek these opportunities and networking stations, potential partners, foundations and federal agencies to increase the likelihood of a station’s success in applying for federal funding.

Sidman continued: “During these tough economic times, APTS believes that filling these two critically important positions will be of great help to public broadcasting stations. I especially want to thank CPB President and CEO Pat Harrison and her excellent team for their support of APTS and the member stations at this critical time.”

Sidman concluded: “We welcome both Stacey and Ellen to APTS. They will be great additions to our team.”
