Countering Calls to Eliminate Federal Funding for Public Television Stations
Whether the call for funding cuts is based upon a desire to cut government spending or an attempt to impact our editorial decisions, these efforts are threatening to inflict great harm on public television and our democracy. APTS is circulating the following set of talking points for supporters of public television to use in countering some of the challenges we currently face.
APTS Station Survey on Spectrum Usage
APTS asks its member stations to complete a short survey that will assist us in developing strategic principles for analyzing proposals around spectrum management on the national front.
Washington Update and Post-Election Outlook
Dom Ruscio, a specialist in government relations and the legislative process, gives an honest assessment of the state of the appropriations process and the post-election outlook. Mr. Ruscio has provided APTS with legislative counsel and guidance on appropriations since 1998.
American Archive Content Inventory Project Grant Opportunity
The American Archive Content Inventory Project (CIP) is an exciting opportunity for APTS members to make their public media collections available to the general population. The CIP’s project manager, WGBH Educational Foundation, in partnership with The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, invites APTS members to submit a proposal for a CIP grant to conduct an inventory of your video and audio assets. Grant awards may range from $5,000 to $20,000, or more, depending on the scope of content to be inventoried.
APTS and PBS Secure NTIA Funding for Qualifying Equipment under the “Warning, Alert and Response Network” Act
The Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) and PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) are pleased to announce that the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) recently released $26.8 million in funding through a grant to PBS to supply local public television stations with the equipment necessary to fulfill the mandate of the “Warning, Alert and Response Network” (WARN) Act.
Station Memo: FCC White Spaces Decision
On September 21, 2010, the Federal Communications Commission adopted an order that resolved legal and technical issues to allow the FCC to move forward in its plan for use of television “white spaces” spectrum.
