APTS Applauds the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee and Full Committee for Supporting Funding for the Public Telecommunications Facilities Program
WASHINGTON – July 23, 2010- The Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) applauds Senate Subcommittee Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski, Ranking Member Richard Shelby, the Senate Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Subcommittee and the Senate Appropriations Committee for recognizing the critical value of public broadcasting's infrastructure program, the Public Telecommunications Facilities Program (PTFP). Late yesterday, the full Appropriations Committee approved $20 million in federal funding for PTFP included in the Subcommittee bill.
"We applaud Chairwoman Mikulski, Ranking Member Shelby, Chairman Inouye and Ranking Member Cochran for their leadership on this critical issue. For over 40 years, PTFP has ensured that public broadcasters are able to provide the highest quality, reliable, universal service to their local communities, including underserved areas and communities devastated by disasters," said APTS Interim President and CEO Lonna Thompson. "APTS looks forward to working with Congress to ensure that this funding remains in the final bill."
