Stacey Karp Receives Honorable Mention As PR Professional of the Year: Nonprofit

WASHINGTON – November 30, 2012 – Stacey Karp, the Director of Communications of the Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) received an Honorable Mention yesterday from PR News as PR Professional of the Year: Nonprofit/Association.

The PR News’ PR People Awards showcase the innovators and leaders of the public relations profession. Karp was honored at a luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.

Karp was selected as a finalist for this award for her role in leading grassroots advocacy for public broadcasting. In 2011, Karp co-managed a team that motivated nearly half a million advocates for public broadcasting through the 170 Million Americans for Public Broadcasting campaign. Karp leads this campaign for public television, and under her leadership public television advocates sent more than 500,000 emails and made countless phone calls to Congress in support of public broadcasting. Through 170 Million Americans and local public broadcasting stations, federal funding for public broadcasting was saved.

“Stacey’s leadership in the 170 million Americans campaign has been an inspiration,” said Patrick Butler, president and CEO of APTS. “Stacey richly deserves this award, and all of her colleagues here at APTS and throughout the industry are extremely proud of her.”

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition,” said Karp. “Working with APTS and the public broadcasting stations is a privilege and a passion, and I am grateful to be recognized for this important and fulfilling work.”
