College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP)
The U.S. Department of Education will not solicit applications for this program in FY 2013. Rather, funding will go to existing grantees. Solicitations for new awards will be offered in the fall of calendar year 2013.
Grant: College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP)
Agency: U.S. Department of Education
Division: Office of Elementary and Secondary Education
Deadline: January 18, 2012
Description: The purpose of CAMP is to provide academic and financial support to help migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their children complete their first year of college and continue in postsecondary education.
For this program there are two competitive priorities. Applicants that have never received a grant under the CAMP program will receive five additional points, and depending on how well proposals meet the Prior Experience of Service Delivery priority, they can receive up to 15 additional points. This takes into account previous annual performance reports, project evaluation reports, site visit reports and the previously approved CAMP application.
The program also includes two invitational priorities. Proposals that meet these priorities do not receive preference over other applications. These priorities include programs that are designed to address science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and proposals that engage faith-based and community organizations in the delivery of services.
Fit for public broadcasting: Interested applicants should consider partnering with an institution of higher education. University licensees provide a platform to reach the target population, and increase education and awareness in line with the program priorities.
A list of past grantees, and project abstracts, can be found here.
Eligibility: Institutions of higher education (IHE), or private nonprofit organizations (including faith-based organizations), that plan their projects in cooperation with an IHE and propose to operate some aspects of the project with the facilities of the IHE are eligible.
Anticipated funding: The actual level of funding, if any, depends on final congressional action. The Administration has requested $3,425,268 in new awards for this program for FY 2012. Eight to nine awards are expected to be granted, ranging from $180,000 to $425,000.
How to apply: Applications must be submitted electronically using Grants.gov. Online submission requires registration, a process that usually takes three to five business days but can take as long as four weeks. Be sure to visit Grants.gov and begin registering well in advance of the grant deadline.
