ART WORKS GRANT WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

Art Works Grant Winners Announced!

Congratulations to the three public broadcasting stations that were among the winners of the National Endowment for the Art’s (NEA) Art Works grant program. On Thursday, November, 17, 2011, the NEA awarded 823 grants to organizations across the country in the Art Works program. The $21.543 million in awards given encompass 15 different artistic disciplines spanning 47 states with a goal of not only creating works of art, but also engaging the public and furthering lifelong learning of the arts in schools and communities. A full list of winners and their programs can be found on the NEA website. The three station winners include:

  • Independent Television Service, Inc. - $45,000 to support a 26-part television series titled Global Voices.
  • Appalshop, Inc. (on behalf of WMMT-FM) - $30,000 to support Pick and Bow: Traditional Arts in Community, a series of afterschool programs that offer instruction in traditional music to students of the Appalachians.
  • Radio Bilingüe - $35,000 to support their presentation of the 29th annual ¡Viva el Mariachi! festival.
