A New Online Resource Brings More Transparency to Grantmaking
October 22, 2012
A new initiative led by the Foundation Center is bringing greater transparency to the world of grantmaking. Fifteen of the nation’s largest foundations across the nation have agreed to collaborate on the Reporting Commitment – which aims to provide more timely and accurate reporting on the flow of philanthropic dollars. Using the Foundation Center’s Glasspockets website as a hub, the participating foundations have agreed to make grant information available to each other and the public on a quarterly basis (if not more frequent).
The 15 participating foundations include:
- Annenberg Foundation.
- The Atlantic Philanthropies.
- Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
- California Endowment.
- Carnegie Corporation.
- Energy Foundation.
- Getty Foundation.
- William Flora Hewlett Foundation.
- Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
- W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
- John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
- Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
- Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
- David & Lucile Packard Foundation.
- Rockefeller Foundation.
Glasspockets provides useful information for grantseekers, ranging from staff and board lists to program priorities, to information about the foundations’ governance policies and finances. To date, 47 foundations of varying sizes, ranging from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to the Arkansas Community Foundation are profiled on the site.
Glasspockets is a great complement to information included in Grant Center profiles and custom research. Be sure to bookmark the site to take full advantage of the wealth of information it provides.
