Description: The Alaska Community Foundation makes unrestricted grants through a competitive proposal process and manages many donor-advised funds. The Foundation has also worked to set up affiliate foundations in several local communities. Affiliate foundations have their own grant cycles and deadlines.
The Foundation distributes funds in three major categories:

Competitive grants: The Foundation offers two primary grant cycles: for unrestricted funds (Alaska Fund and Elmer & Ruth Schwantes Fund) and for the Pebble Fund. Review all open grants here.
- Donor advised grants: Funds are awarded based on the advice of donors, often with staff recommendations.
- Scholarships: Funds are distributed to individuals for educational purposes based on pre-set criteria.
The Foundation manages many different funds. Staff will work to match a project/organization with the appropriate fund.
Sample grants:
- $7,300 to KAKM Channel 7 in general operating support.
- $7,250 to Talkeetna Community Radio, Inc. in general operating support.
- $4,865 to Alaska Public Telecommunications, Inc. in general support for "AK" programming.
- $2,000 to Alaska Public Telecommunications, Inc. in general operating support (donor-advised).
- $1,000 to Alaska Public Telecommunications for KSKA and KAKM (donor-advised fund)
Fit for public broadcasting: There is a good fit for public broadcasting in Alaska, both through competitive and through donor-advised funds.
Eligibility: Potential applicants should review the grantmaking basics to determine eligibility. Organizations must be tax-exempt and/or have 501(c)(3) status.
Deadline: Various funds have their own deadlines.
How to apply: Send a one-page letter of inquiry. The Foundation will review to see if there's a match with one of its funds.
Giving range: Varies widely from $100 - $1+ million. Most grants are below $10,000.
