Description: The Foundation supports projects and organizations in the areas of:
- Community Development, supporting collaborative work to address poverty and racial inequity.
- Education, focusing on improving educational outcomes from kindergarten through higher education.
- Health, supporting projects that promote behavioral change and policies/practices that improve health.
- Wealth Building, focusing on promoting financial literacy and helping people acquire, grow and preserve assets to achieve financial security.
The Foundation is committed to taking a comprehensive approach to the problems affecting the region. It produces several reports on issues of high relevance to the region.
Sample grants:
- $48,687 to Southwest Louisiana Area Health Education Center (2007).
- $25,000 to Youth Empowerment Project (2007).
- $10,000 to Friends of WWOZ for public forums and programs designed to help musicians return to New Orleans (2005).
Fit for public broadcasting: The Foundation has some history of support for public media. There may be more opportunities for projects that use public media to advance the Foundation's primary goals, especially by working to convene thought-leaders and decision-makers, facilitate community dialogue and/or inform the public around key issues.
Eligibility: Organizations must have 501(c)(3) status and must possess a certificate from the Mississippi Secretary of State that designates them as a public charity or exempt for the state of Mississippi. The Foundation will not make grants for:
- Individuals.
- Lobbying activities.
- Ongoing general operating expenses or existing deficits.
- Endowments, capital costs or equipment.

How to apply: The Foundation mainly awards grants through issuing Requests for Proposals. It also accepts unsolicited proposals. If a relevant RFP is not available, organizations may submit an inquiry using the Foundation's Grant Inquiry Form. Organizations can also sign up to receive information about upcoming grant opportunities.
