Description: Incorporated in 1968, the Foundation offers competitive grants through the following Community Programs:
- The Capacity Building program provides support for organizations to improve their capacity to provide service and meet the goals outlined in a strategic plan. The Capacity Building program is available only to those organizations with charitable organization endowments at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation.
- Literacy Is For Everyone (LIFE) seeks to provide opportunities for all citizens to read, write and speak English at a functional level.
- The Margaret Annis Boys Trust and the Parks & Public Spaces Initiative provides support and encouragement for landscaping and beautification projects in parks, medians and other public lands in the Oklahoma City area.
- The Kirkpatrick Family Fund supports organizations working in areas including (among others) arts, education, environment and youth.
- The Fund for Oklahoma City supports other Community Programs initiatives and grant programs.
Sample grants:
- $30,000 to LifeChurch.tv, Edmond, OK for continued general/operating support for media and television (2008).
- $20,000 to Texas Public Radio, San Antonio, TX for KPAC and KPAC endowment fund (2008).
- $10,588 to SAT-7 North American, Easton, MD for continued general/operating support for media and television (2008).
- $10,000 to Alamo Public Telecommunications Council, San Antonio, TX for underwriting for Antiques Roadshow (2008).
Fit for public broadcasting: The Foundation has made multiple gifts for public media in multiple states. The Foundation has made 31 grants for radio/television projects over the past four years, totaling $450,737.
Eligibility: Giving primarily in the greater Oklahoma City, OK, area. No grants to individuals or for endowment funds, deficit financing, debt reduction, capital campaigns, development or fundraising campaigns or academic research projects; no loans.
Deadline: Deadlines vary by project. Applicants should review the guidelines for the appropriate Community Program.
How to apply: The various Community Program grants have their own application procedures. Interested applicants should review the guidelines and access required application forms here. Faxed or e-mailed proposals are not accepted. Application form required. It is fine to contact the designated staff person with questions.
Giving range: The average gift for radio projects is approximately $15,000. The Foundation has made gifts as high as $2.5 million.
