Description: The purpose of this program is to train, inform and assist disadvantaged agricultural producers in the areas of farm management, financial management, marketing contracts and crop insurance. The program supports community outreach projects that create awareness and use of risk management tools and educate audiences about how to use risk management tools to mitigate risks associated with farming. Funded activities include:
Applicants are encouraged to form partnerships with other entities that complement, enhance, and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed project.
Fit for public broadcasting: This program will support a wide range of innovative outreach and assistance activities in farm management, financial management, marketing contracts, crop insurance and other existing and emerging risk management tools. Program activities include using media, newsletters, publications, or other dissemination techniques to inform producers of the availability of risk management tools, and inform producers of the training and informational opportunities being offered.
The program guidelines also recommend that minority media and publications should be used to achieve the broadest promotion of outreach opportunities to socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers as possible.
Eligibility: Institutions of higher education, community organizations, and nonprofits are eligible to apply.
Anticipated funding: An estimated $2.5 million will be available for this program. All awards will be made by September 30, 2010.
