Federal Opportunities

New to Federal Funding? The White House's Office of Faith-Based and Community Organizations is devoting some resources to helping nonprofit organizations navigate the federal funding arena. With a focus on at-risk youth, ex-offenders, homelessness, hunger issues, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, and welfare-to-work, not all programs will apply to your needs, but the materials are written to target all nonprofit organizations new to federal grants. Many grant competitions now award extra points for novice applicants as part of this effort-if your station is new to federal grants, you may be able to take advantage of this!

You will also want to familiarize yourself with these resources:

The Federal Register: the most comprehensive resource. Because of the sheer volume of information compiled here, it's best to know what you're looking for. Search for a particular grant or within a given date to find notices, priorities, revisions, and often application packets.
The National Science Foundation has its own grantwriting process, which can be intimidating at first. Download their Guide to Proposals to learn more about how to write an NSF grant. (pdf)
Don't forget to check the Grants Center listings regularly! We flag opportunities that we identify as good matches for PTV.
