Join Our NEA Conference Call TODAY
Join us today, Thursday, May 6, at 2:00 p.m. EDT/11:00 a.m. PDT for a conference call on the National Endowment for the Arts’ “Arts on Radio and Television” grant program. Through this program, the National Endowment for the Arts seeks to make the excellence and diversity of the arts widely available to the American public though nationally distributed television and radio programs. On this conference call, NEA Director of Media Arts, Ted Libbey, will tell us more about the program and how stations can get involved.

USDA Announces the FY 2010 Rural Digital Grant Round
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the opening of applications for the FY 2010 Rural Digital Program. The program is funded at $4.5 million and serves to help rural stations meet their digital transition needs ranging from transmission to studio and production equipment.
USDA made no major changes to the program this year. As in past years, the program will be capped at $750,000 per station. Applications to the program are due Friday, June 25, 2010.

Seeking Funding from a Community Foundation
The first community foundation was created in Cleveland, Ohio in 1914. Now, there are community foundations, large and small, across the country. For a map of community foundations nationwide, click here. In recent years, some larger foundations have undertaken initiatives to "seed" the development of community foundations in order to expand and strengthen local philanthropy.

Grant: Public Television Digital Transition Grant Program
Agency: U.S. Department of Agriculture
Division: Rural Utilities Service (RUS)
Deadline: June 25, 2010
Description: This program assists public television stations serving substantial rural populations in transitioning to digital broadcast television transmission. Grant funds may be used to acquire and install facilities and software necessary for the transition. Funds may also be used for associated engineering and environmental studies.
Allowable expenses include:
• Digital transmitters, translators and repeaters, including all facilities required to initiate DTV broadcasting.
• Power upgrades of existing DTV transmitter equipment.
• Studio-to-transmitter links.
• Equipment to allow local control over digital content and programming, including master control equipment.
• Digital program production equipment, including cameras, editing, mixing and storage equipment.
• Multicasts and datacasting equipment.
• Cost of the lease of facilities, if any, for up to three years.
• Associated engineering and environmental studies necessary to implementation.

Description: The purpose of the Race to the Top Fund is to support those states making significant progress in the following areas:
• Creating the conditions for education innovation and reform.
• Achieving significant improvement in student outcomes, including making substantial gains in student achievement, closing achievement gaps, improving high school graduation rates, and ensuring student preparation for success in college and careers.

Grant: Public Education Programs Concerning the Anti-discrimination Provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act

Division: Office of Special Counsel for Immigration Related Unfair Employment Practices (OSC)
Deadline: May 27, 2010
Description: The purpose of this program is to conduct public education programs about the rights afforded potential victims of employment discrimination and the responsibilities of employers under the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).

Grant: Public Awareness and Outreach for Victims in Underserved Communities
Agency: U.S. Department of Justice
Division: Office for Victims of Crime (OVC)
Deadline: May 18, 2010
Description: The goal of this program is to raise the awareness within traditionally underserved populations about the needs of children exposed to violence, as well as to improve their knowledge about accessing services available to child victims.

Grant: Math and Science Partnerships Program
Agency: National Science Foundation (NSF)
Division: Undergraduate Education
Deadline: The full proposal deadline is July 8, 2010 for the following components of this program: Institute Partnerships, MSP-Start Partnerships, Phase II Partnerships, Research Evaluation and Technical Assistance Projects. The deadline for Targeted Partnerships is October 14, 2010.
Description: The purpose of the Math and Science Partnership (MSP) program is to support innovative partnerships to improve K-12 student achievement in mathematics and science.

Grant: Building State Capacity for Preventing Youth Substance Use and Violence
Agency: U.S. Department of Education
Division: Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools
Deadline: June 7, 2010
Description: The purpose of this program is to provide competitive grants to State Educational Agencies (SEAs) to build capacity and to prevent youth substance use and violence, and support collaboration between SEAs and other State agencies that are involved in efforts to prevent these problems. Funded activities include:
• Technical assistance and training.
• Program support services.
• Data analysis.
• Coordination of activities.
• Information dissemination.
