Signature Obama Administration Grant Programs and Public Broadcasting
Signature Obama Administration Grant Programs and Public Broadcasting
Monday, December 6, 2010
On the APTS Grant Center call on December 6, 2010, Danica Petroshius, of Policy Strategies and Solutions, LLC, and presenters from three stations discussed lessons learned from the first round of competition for three U.S. Department of Education grant programs: Race to the Top, Investing in Innovation Fund (i3) and Promise Neighborhoods. Last year, Race to the Top funded efforts at Georgia Public Broadcasting and Maryland Public Television, and both stations discussed their successful partnerships with the winning states. WGBH talked about their experience applying as a partner in the i3 competition, where their co-application with lead partner Citizen Schools was named one of the highest-rated non-winning entries.
For all three of these programs, public media entities can be excellent applicants and partners. We are committed to helping stations find their place in the process, to bring well-deserved and needed funding into the public media system.
We encourage you to read our profiles on Race to the Top, Promise Neighborhoods and the Investing in Innovation Fund. Note that these summaries are based on past competitions, but they will provide useful background on the programs.
