Georgia Public Broadcasting Partners with State on Race to the Top

As part of our effort to showcase public media projects and provide examples of successful funding and partnering initiatives, the APTS Grant Center newsletter will highlight one station initiative each month. This month, the story is from Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB). Their inclusion in Georgia's successful proposal for the U.S. Department of Education's Race to the Top program demonstrates their productive partnership with the state department of education.

As detailed in Georgia's Race to the Top application, GPB will help to raise awareness among educators of new standards that will be implemented as a result of Georgia's Race to the Top initiative. Additionally, as part of Georgia's STEM activities, GPB will promote STEM fields and themes in order to change culture around STEM learning, increase student interest in STEM fields, encourage entrants to the field and recruit diverse STEM educators. GPB may also be involved in the development and production of professional development modules for the new standards.

In addition to providing services as part of Georgia's statewide Race to the Top initiative, GPB has taken on a leadership role in the process. During the development of the application, Georgia Public Broadcasting participated in the Standards and Assessments core team, and they will continue to have a defined leadership role during implementation. GPB was part of a core group of Georgia's Race to the Top team that recently met with Tennessee's Race to the Top team and will continue to stay connected and leverage thought leadership during the implementation of Race to the Top.

Georgia Public Broadcasting's Director of Education will participate in the APTS Grant Center's December conference call to further discuss the partnership and application process.
