Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) recently received an Associated Press award for Best Newscast as well as first and third place in the Achievement Award category. MPB News and Public Affairs received the Best Newscast award, and was described by judges as “thorough coverage of multiple stores important to the community.” MPB's News and Public Affairs Department previously received this honor in 2002.

MPB Executive Director Marie Antoon stated, “This is a wonderful honor for our news and public affairs staff, and is a great recognition for our organization as a whole. These prestigious awards exemplify the true spirit of Mississippi Public Broadcasting employees –– dedicated, committed, and professional. We are here to serve and provide the citizens of Mississippi with pertinent information that is relevant to their daily lives.”

MPB also received third place in the Achievement Award category for its coverage of the Killen trial, and first place recognition for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina. Judges noted the dedication to these stories, as well as the effective development and coverage of both events.

MPB staff members Patty Davis and Teresa Collier were also given individual awards for their news reporting.
