Nashville Public Television (NPT) recently participated in an extensive local disaster exercise in coordination with the Greater Nashville Homeland Security District 5. Nearly 3,000 emergency responders and coordinators received information about the simulated disaster, along with accompanying newscasts, in the field and at emergency planning sites. NPTprovided the closed circuit feed for the mock newscasts produced by Middle Tennessee State University students and the ability to datacast alerts to computers through NPT’s digital broadcast and SpectraRep’s AlertManager. Feedback from the exercise participants has been positive, and many have expressed interest in continued testing and becoming more familiar with datacasting and its benefits.
