On Wednesday, September 30th, Tom Axtell, General Manager of Vegas PBS, testified before the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure’s Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management. Axtell was invited to testify to showcase the role that Vegas PBS has taken in public alert and warning, as well as its critical partnerships with local emergency responders.
Axtell also used the opportunity to discuss the need for FEMA and NTIA to coordinate for the release of $72 million that will fund station purchases of DEAS equipment. This funding was secured by APTS in the WARN Act in 2006, but has been tied up for the last year. The Committee was receptive on this point and one member commented that it was something that they would look into.
