WFYI Public Television (Indianapolis, IN) held its 13th annual Let’s Meet PBS KIDS in the Park at the American Legion Mall & Veterans Memorial Plaza Saturday, June 24, 2006. The festival usually hosts a large crowd, and this year was no exception with approximately 55,000 children and parents in attendance.
The event featured continuous live entertainment and 18 PBS KIDS walk around characters. Let’s Meet PBS KIDS in the Park offered an array of educational activities hosted by 30 of Central Indiana’s leading arts and service organizations that reflect WFYI’s on-going commitment to make all young children Ready-to-Learn.
Lloyd Wright, President and CEO, WFYI Public Television said: "Let's Meet PBS Kids In the Park is WFYI's way of saying ‘thank you’ to the central Indiana community for its support of all that's offered as a result of our children's television program service. It's also a showcase for our many partners. The event offers a chance for young people and their parents to have hands-on experiences with area organizations that represent all aspects of community life - arts and culture, social service, education, health and wellness, sports, public safety, libraries and more.” Wright continued: “Like public broadcasting, Let's Meet is universally accessible and offered free of charge. At the same time, it's our hope that it will also inspire philanthropy and the desire to contribute to WFYI. At the end of the day, we hope that our community will better recognize the essential resource and vital role that WFYI and public broadcasting plays in our community. It's really a celebration - a truly incredible day in the park!"
WFYI partnered with Riley Hospital for Children and SafeGuard to host the event. A variety of other local businesses, organizations and non-profits helped to sponsor the event.
