WITF Introduces New Media Center to Community (May 2007)
WITF, Harrisburg, Pa., opened the WITF Public Media Center--the station’s new, first-ever, custom built and designed facility. WITF’s new home is designed to be a technical space that allows the public to feel involved in the station’s activities on a daily basis.
WITF welcomes the community to participate in Digital Media Tours scheduled to begin in May 2007. “This facility is both technologically advanced and community oriented,” said WITF’s Presid
ent and CEO Kathleen Pavelko. “This building allows us to be tangibly interactive.”
Visitors to the new facility are immersed in the station’s media operations upon entering the building, where large glass panes allow visual access to technicians and engineers sending programs out onto the airwaves. Throughout the building, multiple windows and an open floor plan offer a look into WITF’s technical world and allow visitors to feel like part of the production.
To celebrate the WITF Public Media Center’s official dedication, the station recently held the WITF Family Day, offering visitors interactive learning activities for all ages, several performances throughout the day and the chance for attendees to meet some of their favorite WITF on-air personalities.
